Objective: Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignant tumor.Although medullary thyroid carcinoma(MTC)accounts for only 5% of thyroid cancers, its malignancy is second only to undifferentiated thyroid cancer.Because of the multifocal clinical manifestations of MTC,lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis occur earlier, the recurrence rate is higher, and there is a genetic predisposition, and the effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy are not obvious,so the prognosis is relatively poor. The current thorough and early surgical treatment is The only way it is possible to cure MTC.Wnt family proteins play an important role in animal embryo growth and development, and play an irreplaceable role in cell proliferation, differentiation, invasion and migration.Wnt5 a is one of the most important factors of the non-classical calcium pathway of Wnt signaling.A large number of studies have found that Wnt5 a is abnormally expressed in a variety of malignant tumors and plays an important role in its occurrence, development, and invasion. However, the expression of Wnt5 a in MTC is rare in domestic and foreign reports. This article aims to explore the expression level of Wnt5 a protein in MTC and its relationship with the clinicopathological characteristics of patients. Methods:A total of 44 paraffin samples were collected from the former People's Liberation Army 202 th Hospital and the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University from 2008 to 2016,including 44 cases of cancerous tissue and adjacent tissues.Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of Wnt5 a protein in MTC and adjacent tissues. Results: 1.Immunohistochemical results showed that among 44 cases of MTC and adjacent tissues, the positive rate of Wnt5 a in MTC(number of cases)was 86.36%(38/44),and the positive rate of Wnt5 a in adjacent thyroid tissues(number of cases)was4.55%(2/44),the difference was statistically significant(P?0.05).2.The expression of Wnt5 a was not related to the patient's gender, age, and TNM stage of the tumor, and the difference was statistically significant(P > 0.05).It was related to lymph node metastasis, and the difference was statistically significant(P?0.05).Conclusion: 1.The expression of Wnt5 a protein in medullary thyroid carcinoma was significantly higher than that in adjacent thyroid tissues.2.Wnt5 a has nothing to do with the sex,age and TNM stage of tumors in patients with medullary thyroid cancer, and it is closely related to the occurrence of lymph node metastasis.3.To detect the expression of Wnt5 a and further study its molecular mechanism may provide ideas for the early diagnosis of MTC.
