Background: With improvements in medical diagnostics, the detection rate of synchronous multiple primary lung cancer(s MPLC)is increasing. There have been a lack of reports from studies with large sample sizes about s MPLC in the past. The aim of this study was to collect large amounts of data, summarize the pathological features and survival analysis of s MPLC and provide a theoretical basis for the clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Methods: We selected patients who were diagnosed with s MPLC between 2006 and2015 from the Surveillance,Epidemiology, and End Results(SEER)program for this study.Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox-proportional hazards models were used to estimate the prognosis of s MPLC.Result: A total of 523 eligible patients with s MPLC were enrolled according to the inclusion criteria.Sex(P=0.000),p T stage(P=0.000),p N stage(P=0.000),lymph node metastasis(P=0.000),the number of pathological categories(P=0.000),and whether or not the tumor was a pure adenocarcinoma(P=0.000)were significantly associated with poor prognosis.Cox multivariate analysis revealed that age(P=0.002),p T stage(P=0.004)and p N stage(P=0.012)were independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of s MPLC patients. Conclusion: According to this study with a large sample size,we found that tumor pT and p N stages were important factors affecting prognosis, consistent with previous reports. In addition,we also found that sex had an important impact on the prognosis of multiple primary lung cancers. These findings are of great significance for predicting the prognosis of multiple primary lung cancers.
