Research On Ameirican Health Diplomacy In Africa

The issue of global public health has always been one of the most important issues in the international field.In order to solve global health problems,many countries have carried out foreign health aid and health diplomacy,among which the health diplomacy of the United States is the most typical one.With the occurrence of the 911 incident,the position of Africa in the national strategy of the United States has gradually improved.American health diplomacy towards Africa has become an important link to assist the implementation of the American strategy in Africa.This paper focuses on combing and analyzing the development background,development course,main path and characteristics of the United States' health diplomacy towards Africa,as well as the main causes.Through research and analysis,we can see that the United States launched its health aid to Africa very early.Now,the United States will continue to focus on the health problems in Africa to safeguard its national security and economic interests.In my paper,the global health diplomacy and the USA's health diplomacy are firstly summarized,which is the foundation for the development of USAAfrica health diplomacy.Then it introduces the development background of American health diplomacy to Africa from different aspects.There are several key points in the development of the us health diplomacy to Africa,each of which leads the health diplomacy to a new stage.Bilateral and multilateral diplomacy is the main path adopted by the United States in its health diplomacy towords Africa.Bilateral activities include its diplomacy with various countries and those with the African union.Multilateral activities include the United States' health assistance to Africa on multilateral platforms such as the world health organization,and its cooperation with other international actors such as China and the European Union in establishing multilateral diplomatic relations with Africa to conduct health diplomacy.Different from China and other countries,the United States has its own characteristics of non-health diplomacy,which is "disease-oriented".This can be seen in the creation of PEPFAR and the emergency response to the ebola outbreak.So why is the United States paying more attention to health diplomacy? My paper analyzes from the three aspects,national security,economic interests and ideology.Through the analysis,it can be seen that it is these three motivations that make the United States strengthen its health diplomacy to Africa.Finally,some achievements and shortcomings of the USA's health diplomacy towards Africa should serve as important references for China's health diplomacy towards Africa.
