Objective: The original plant and medicinal part of CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA in herbal literature was verified.The resource of wild CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA in Anhui province was understood.The adulterants of CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA were identified by market surveys.CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA and its adulterants were identified by Morphological,microscopic and TLC experiments.Pectolinarin,linarin and chlorogenic acid as indicators were determined by HPLC for Cirsii jaopnici HEABA in Anhui Province.Meanwhile,The fingerprint was established by HPLC to provide theoretical and experimental basis for the quality research of CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA in Anhui Province.Methods: The original plant and medicinal part of CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA was verified by herbal literature.The resource of wild CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA in Anhui province was understood by literature review and field surveys.The CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA was investigated in traditional Chinese medicine market in Bozhou,Anguo,Zhangshu,Chengdu and Chongqing.CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA and its adulterants were identifed by morphological,microscopic and TLC experiments.fingerprint and a method of content determination for CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA in Anhui Province were established,regarding pectolinarin,linarin and chlorogenic acid as indicator.Results: From the past to the present,the original plant of CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA hardly changed.In the herbal recordation,the main useful parts of CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA is roots.The distribution of resources in Anhui province is more in the east but less in the west.Due to the use of pesticides and the impact of the policy of Hill-closure,the resources of CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA appeared to a trend of decline in Anhui Province.The sales CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA derive from Sonchus asper(L.)Hill,Cirsium setosum(Willd.)MB.,Cirsium segetum Bunge,Cirsium hupehense Pamp.And Carduus acanthoides L..Sonchus asper(L.)Hill come from the Chinese traditional medicine market of Bozhou and Zhangshu.Cirsium segetum Bunge come from the Chinese traditional medicine market of Anguo,Chengdu and Chongqing.Carduus acanthoides L.come from Hebei Province.There are differences among steams,leaves,bracts and florets of CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA and its adulterants.CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA and its adulterants were identified by the characteristics of pollen grain,non glandular hairs,stone cell,calcium oxalate crystals and vascular bundles in the mircroscopic experiment.At the same time,the spots of TLC are different.The content determination of HPLC showed that there are some differences in the components of wild CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA in Anhui Province,while cultivated CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA are more stable.The adulterants of CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA cotain no pectolinarin.There are 19 characteristic peaks in HPLC fingerprint,which the sixth one is chlorogenic acid,the 13 th is linarin and the 14 th is pectolinarin.Conclusion: The original plant of CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA was Cirsium japonicum Fisch.ex DC..Roots and aboveground parts should be used separately.The resources of CIRSII JAPONICI HERBA appeared to a trend of decline in Anhui Province.There were many adulterants of CIRSII JAPONICI HERBA in the market.The CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA and its adulterants can be identified by morphological,microscopic and TLC experiments.The content of cultivated CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA in Anhui Province are abundant and stable.As a consequence,cultivated CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA are able to replace for wild CIRSII JAPONICI HEABA.
