Objective: To investigate the correlation between gray matter structure and motor function in children with spastic cerebral palsy by using voxel based morphometry(VBM).Methods: 36 children with spastic cerebral palsy aged 2 to 15 were selected and evaluated for motor function using the gross motor function classification system(GMFCS).All subjects were divided into mild motor dysfunction group and severe motor dysfunction group according to the results.Routine magnetic resonance and 3D-T1 WI scans were performed on both groups.Voxel based morphometry(VBM)was applied to investigate whole brain gray matter injury relating to motor function in spastic cerebral palsy.Two-sample t-test was used to compare the gray matter volume of the two groups.Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between gray matter volume and GMFCS classification in different brain regions. Results: The volume of gray matter in the mild exercise dysfunction group and the severe motion dysfunction group were(648.43 ? 76.30)mL and(589.08 ? 82.20)mL,respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(t=3.679,P<0.05).Compared with the mild exercise dysfunction group, the double-side frontal gyrus of the severe motion dysfunction group, the two-sided polar, the upper back, the left central anterior, the right fusiform, the back on the left side, the back of the right back, the right back, the left top inferior lobule, the right wedge front lobe,The local gray matter volume of the right occipital lobe was decreased(P<0.001,without correction),and no increase in the gray matter was found. There was a negative correlation between the two-sided frontal gyrus, the right back-back,the right back-back,the left central anterior, the right-hand wedge and the gross motor function(P<0.05).Conclusion: Kinematic dysfunction in patients with spastic cerebral palsy is associated with diffuse cortical injury.voxel based morphometry(VBM)provides a non-invasive imaging method for brain structural and functional abnormalities in children with cerebral palsy.
