Objective:To analyze the etiology of children with short stature and the etiology composition ratio of children with short stature of different ethnic groups. Methods:The clinical data of 855 hospitalized children of different ethnic groups were retrospectively analyzed.Children were divided into two groups of Han and minority and the etiology of two groups were compared. Results:Among 855 children with short stature,338children with growth hormone deficiency?GHD?accounted for 39.53%,47 children with hypothyroidism accounted for 5.50%,191 children with chronic systemic disease accounted for 22.34%,108 children with idiopathic short stature?ISS?accounted for12.63%,116 children with genetic metabolic diseases accounted for 13.57%,and 32children with small for gestational age?SGA?accounted for 3.74%.The etiology composition ratio of short stature between different ethnic groups was different, and there were statistically significant differences in composition ratio of pathological, genetic metabolic disease and chronic systemic disease(?2=13.767,P=0.000;?2=9.006,P=0.003;?2=3.942,P=0.047),but there weren't statistically significant differences in composition ratio of growth hormone deficiency and endocrine disease(?2=1.383,P=0.240;?2=2.625,P=0.105).Conclusion:There are many etiologies of short stature.Endocrine disease is the most important etiology of short stature;the etiology composition ratio of different ethnic groups is different.GHD of Han children is higher than that of minority children, but pathological, genetic metabolic disease and chronic systemic disease of minority children are all higher than Han children. The height loss of minority children is more serious.
