Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of combined management of surgical excision and laser coagulation. Methods and Materials: A total of 54 patients(54 eyes)with orbital venous malformations referred to Department of Ophthalmology,Ninth People's Hospital,Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine between 2007-2016 were include in this study. All patients undergone combined treatment with surgical excision and 980 nm wave-length diode laser. The general date as gender, sex, age at diagnosis, location and range of lesion, hemodynamics and follow up time were reviewed.Lesion volume and colored appearance before and after operation were recorded to determine the results.Associated complications were evaluated in the follow up.Results: There were 28 male patients(51.8%)and 26(48.1%)female patients in the study. The ages of patients ranged between 3 and 65 years(means,29 years).Among the patients were 43 patients with superficial malformations and 11 patients with deep ones..Follow-up duration ranged from 2 to 24 months(means,11 months).Complete resolution(no visible or detected lesion)in 3 cases(27.2%),significant improvement(shrinkage of over 50% of lesion volume)was achieved in 8 cases(72.2%).2 cases has significant improvement after the same treatment again, who has no significant improvement after the first treatment.Complications were few and minimal, such as edema, slightly skin scarring, and uneven lid margin. No serious complication as vision damage was obeserved. Conclusions: Combined treatment on orbital nevous malformation with surgical procedure and 980 nm wave-length diode laser highly effective with low risk of adverse events.
