Objective: It has been confirmed that the red blood cell distribution width is associated with poor prognosis in non-dialysis patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, there is little evidence that the red blood cell distribution width is correlated with the end result of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular death in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. This study retrospectively analyzed the relevant data of maintenance hemodialysis patients in the Hemodialysis Center of Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University. The purpose is to understand the relationship between the distribution of red blood cells and the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular death in maintenance hemodialysis patients.Methods:143 patients who had been undergoing maintenance hemodialysis at the Hemodialysis Center of the Department of Nephrology,Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University from August 1,2014 to August 31,2018 were divided into two groups, the first group was the hemodialysis survival group, with a total of 71 patients. The second group included 72 patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular death in hemodialysis patients.Collect general information, laboratory indicators, etc.of each group, and draw conclusions through statistical analysis. Results: Cardiovascular death group in maintenance hemodialysis patients compared with maintenance hemodialysis patients in dialysis survival group,There was no difference in gender between the two groups(p>0.05),and there was a significant difference in age(p<0.05).There were also significant differences in the primary disease and dialysis pathway between the two groups(p<0.05).There were significant differences between the two groups in white blood cell count, hemoglobin, mean red blood cell volume, red blood cell distribution width, albumin, urea, creatinine, total cholesterol, calcium, phosphorus, iron binding capacity, parathyroid hormone, and C-reactive protein(p<0.05).There were no significant differences in red blood cell count, triglyceride, ferritin, and homocysteine between the two groups(p>0.05).Taking the group as the dependent variable, the correlation index with significant difference between the two groups is the independent variable expressed by binary logistic regression analysis.Erythrocyte distribution width increased, hemoglobin decreased, albumin decreased, and transfer iron binding capacity decreased was a risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular death in maintenance hemodialysis patients(p<0.05).Conclusion: The red blood cell distribution width is increased, hemoglobin is decreased, albumin is decreased, and transfer iron binding capacity is decreased are the risk factors for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular death in maintenance hemodialysis patients.
