Up to now,as a very complex system, the human brain develops according to the left-right symmetrical development pattern. In fact, lateralization of the brain does exist. The emergence of magnetic resonance imaging provides a useful tool for the study of brain lateralization, which can help us understand the symmetry of the brain. The study of brain magnetic resonance imaging symmetry can well describe the difference of left-right symmetry in difference brain regions. This paper presents a method based on the analysis of structural brain covariant symmetry, has carried on the thorough discussion in the structure of magnetic resonance data processing,we can reveal about brain structure symmetry in the actual physiological role of the brain as well as the study of symmetry provides a new method and thought.Autism spectrum disorder(ASD)is a neurodevelopment disorder that seriously affects human health. Its clinical manifestations are social communication and restricted, repetitive behavior.Previous studies have shown that autism exhibits more asymmetry at the cortical segregation unit level than in the control group.Voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity(VMHC)has also been used to detect a reduced VMHC at the posterior superior temporal gyrus in autism. However, the above studies have not quantitatively depicted the symmetry of the brain or the symmetry of the brain in structure. Therefore, this paper applies the method of brain symmetry base on the structural covariance analysis to children with autism to explore the change of the symmetry of the brain. And whether the change of brain symmetry is related to the disorder itself. We alse tested whether the index of the method could be a potential biomarker to differentiate the disease and provide a better neuroimaging basis for clinical diagnosis. Therefore, this paper creates a method of brain symmetry based on structural covariance analysis, and applies this method to children with autism based on multi-center large-sample autism magnetic resonance data. The work of this paper mainly includes the following parts.1.To develop a research method of brain symmetry based on structural covariance analysis, which can clearly observe the symmetry between the left and right hemispheres of brain. It may reveal the role of the symmetry between the left and right hemispheres in the actual physiology and provide a new method and thought for the study of brain symmetry.2.The method of brain symmetry based on structural covariance analysis was applied to children with autism. The results showed that there were differences in brain symmetry between children with autism and normal controls in insula, frontal lobe, occipital lobe and cerebellum. The study revealed abnormalities of children with autism brain structure symmetry, and this may lead to abnormal patterns of patients with autism spectrum disorder is one of the sources of brain abnormalities,to deepen the understanding of the etiology of autism and its pathophysiology mechanism.3.Based on the symmetry of brain function in autistic children with amplitude of low frequency fluctuation(ALFF),we found that there were abnormalities in insula, occipital lobes and temporal lobes of autistic children. This study reveals that the abnormal symmetry of brain function in children with autism spectrum disorder. And the symmetry of insula region is abnormal in structure and function, which indicates that the insula is an important area for the structural and functional symmetric research of autism. The study of insula plays an important role in understanding the etiology of autism and its neuropathophysiological mechanism.
