Value Of Preoperative Measurement Through X-ray Film In Total Knee Arthroplasty

Objective: To investigate the value of measurement through x-ray film for achieving the accuracy of bone cutting,alignment and postoperative effect in total knee athroplasty(TKA).Methods: According to whether or not the X-ray was used to figure out the angle and thickness of bone-cutting,100 cases(male 34 cases,female 66 cases,age 52-92 years)of knee osteoarthritis with varus of 4-21o,which were going to undergo TKA,were divided into 2 groups with each group 50 cases.For both groups,Hospital for Special Surgery(HSS)knee scoring was evaluated and full length weight-bearing X-ray film was performed preoperatively.For group A,The alignment and bone cutting were performed only according to the bony anatomical point in TKA.For group B,alignment of lower extremities,angle of varus and angle between femoral mechanical axis and anatomical axis were measured and thickness of bone cutting in femoral condyle and tibial plateau was calculated.The alignment and bone cutting were performed according to the bony anatomical point combined with preoperative measurement in TKA.Full length weight-bearing X-ray film was performed and HSS knee scoring and patient satisfaction were evaluated postoperatively.Results: The accuracy of bone cutting and alignment in group B are better compared with group A significantly(P<0.05).HSS knee scoring postoperatively increased significantly in both groups(P<0.05).However,there is no significance between the two groups in HSS knee scoring postoperatively(P>0.05).There is also no significance between the two groups in patient satisfaction(P>0.05).Conclusion: Preoperative measurement through x-ray film increases accuracy of bone cutting and alignment,however,can not increase postoperative effect significantly.
