Objective: To investigate the effect of melatonin on early postoperative cognitive function, sleep quality and postoperative pain in elderly gynecological surgery. Methods: A total of 90 elderly patients aged 60-81 years with ASA ?~? were enrolled in our hospital from September 2017 to January 2018 undergoing general anesthesia. They were randomly divided into melatonin group(M group)and placebo group(P group).M group received 6 mg of melatonin at 8:00 pm before operation and half an hour before operation, and P group received placebo. The MMSE score after the first day,the third day and the seventh day were recorded. The total sleep time and the VAS pain score on the first day and the second day were recorded.Result:There was no significant difference in characteristics of patients, length of surgery and estimated blood loss between the two groups(P> 0.05);MMSE scores of M group and P group were significantly lower than those of the first day before operation(P <0.05);Compared with P group, the MMSE score of M group increased significantly at different time points;Compared with P group, the total sleep time of M group was significantly increased on the first day and the second day after operation(P <0.05);There was no significant difference in VAS pain scores on the first day and the second day between the two groups(P> 0.05).Conclusion:Melatonin decreased early postoperative cognitive dysfunction in elderly gynecological surgery, increasing postoperative total sleep time, but not improving postoperative pain.
