Objectives: Atrial septal defect can influence the right ventricular function because of the shunt.Transcatheter closure can improve the right ventricular function through recovering the normal circulation by cutting off the shunt. So the assessment of right ventricular function can help for case choice preoperatively, postoperative effect and prognostic evaluation.Studies have confirmed that tricuspid annular movement has excellent correlativity with right ventricular function. This study use echocardiograph to evaluate the movement of tricuspid annular of anterior, septum and posterior in children with atrial septal defects respectively before and after transcatheter closure. So that we can fully explicit its relevance to the right ventricular function. Methods: To measure the echocardiography index of normal children and children with atrial septal defects in preoperative and postoperative.Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion of anterior and septum,end-diastolic right ventricular long axis length and end-systolic right ventricular long axis length,end-diastolic right ventricle area and end-systolic right ventricle area were measured in apical four-chamber view.Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion of anterior and posterior,end-diastolic right ventricle area and end-systolic right ventricle area were measured in right ventricular inflow view.SPSS software is used for statistical analysis. Results: Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion in normal children has positive significant relevance with age, height, weight and body surface area.Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion after transcatheter closure slightly increased than before, but no statistical difference.Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion can reflect the right ventricular function to a certain extent and the anterior in apical four-chamber view has the best correlation. Conclusion: Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion can be used in the routine echocardiograph for the children with atrial septal defects before and after transcatheter closure as a right ventricular function evaluation index. So that we can follow up the patients' right ventricular function improvement after transcatheter closure.
