Background:Titanium-zirconium alloy?TiZr1317?is a new material used for biological implants.There are several studies on the effects of TiZr implants on the biological characteristics of human bone mesenchymal stem cells?hBMSCs?.Objectives:The purpose of this study was to investigate the biological responses of hBMSCs to implant holes affected by the physicochemical properties of oral implants?TiSLA,TiSLActive,TiZrSLA,and TiZrSLActive?.Materials and Methods:Grade 4 Ti and TiZr?13–17%Zr?substrates were modified by sandblasting and acid-etching?SLA?or hydrophilic sandblasting and acid-etching?SLActive?,resulting in four types of surface with complex microstructures corresponding to the commercially-available implants SLA?,Roxolid?SLA?,SLActive?,and Roxolid?SLActive??Institute Straumann AG,Basel,Switzerland?.Physicochemical properties were detected and the biological responses of hBMSCs were observed.Results:The surface contact angles of TiSLActive and TiZrSLActive were 1.6 0+0.3 ° and1.5 °+0.2 °,and the surface contact angles of Ti SLALA and TiZrSLA were 101.4+4.6 ° and96.20+3.0 °,respectively.SEM showed that the nano-protrusions on the surface of TiSLALA and TiZrSLA were less or even absent,while the nano-protrusions on the surface of TiSLActive and TiZrSLActive were relatively more;the namo-protrusions on the surface of TiSLActive surfaces were small and dense relatively,but the nano-protrusions of the TiZrSLActive had large diameters and were dispersed relatively.The optical profiler and AFM showed that the surface roughness of TiSLActive and TiZrSLActive was significantly higher than that of TiSLALA and TiZrSLA?P<0.05?.Raman spectroscopy showed that only the amorphous TiO2 was present on the surface of the Ti SLA group,while the rutile TiO2 characteristic peak was observed in the other three groups,but the lateral inhomogeneity was observed.After Raman shift 610cm-1,the Raman spectra of four groups were similar.hBMSCs seeded on SLActive substrates exhibited better performance in terms of cell attachment,proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation than cells seeded on SLA.Conclusion:Because of their more suitable physicochemical properties,Ti SLActive and TiZrSLActive materials demonstrated more pronounced effects on the biological responses of hBMSCs compared with TiSLA and TiZrSLA.
