Objective: To obtain the latest information about the dynamics of drug-resistant TB in Gansu province, and we describe in depth the epidemic and resistance patterns among TB patients in Gansu. Our study serves as the basis for predicting the outbreaks of drug resistant TB in Gansu. The awareness of Tuberculosis knowledge was assessed by a self-made questionnaire.Associations between demographic characteristics and knowledge were calculated using logistic regression, and provide evidence for making strategies of preventing TB.Methods: A retrospective study was designed on drug resistance among new TB cases diagnosed between June 2010 and May 2014 in in the Pulmonary Hospital of Lanzhou,Infectious Disease Hospital of Gansu province. With self-made questionnaire, investigation was implemented among TB patients in the Pulmonary Hospital of Lanzhou, during Jun to Dec in 2015,including basic information, behaviors, symptoms, diagnosis and knowledge of tuberculosis.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze influencing factor of awareness of tuberculosis knowledge. Results: Between June 2010 and May 2014,a total of 2779 patients with cerebrospinal fluid or pleural effusion in the Pulmonary Hospital of Lanzhou. The mean age of the enrolled patients was 41.21(SD 19.67),and 991 of them were female(35.7%).Out of these cases,1113 were positive(40%)upon mycobacterial culture.Overall,17.3% of TB new cases diagnosed during 2010 to 2014 in Gansu presented resistance to at least one anti-TB drug. And a total of 2.9% of new TB cases have multidrug resistance. The prevalence of multidrug-resistant TB in Gansu was found to resurge after 2013(2.0%)after a steady decline between 2010 and 2012(from 7.1% to 1.2%).A total of 1720 participants took part, and 113 were excluded because of incomplete, and 1607 were enrolled in our study. The mean age is 40(SD 18),726(45.2%)were male.Low level of knowledge was held by 43.7% of participants.Knowledge was associated with high education, and education is independent influencing factor of tuberculosis knowledge.Compared with illiterate or semi-literate,college and above are twice more likely to have a favourable awareness towards tuberculosis(OR 1.76,95%CI 1.12-2.76,P=0.014).Conclusion: We report the first epidemiological description of drug-resistant TB in Gansu, which is distinct when compared to other regions. Our data demonstrate that the distribution of drugresistant TB varies to a great extent among different geographic regions. And the results of our study greatly suggest that the implementation of individualized TB management and regimen policy based on the regional epidemiology of TB drug susceptibility is highly required. The awareness rate of tuberculosis knowledge was low.Knowledge was associated with high education, and education is independent influencing factor of tuberculosis knowledge.
