Objective: We mainly studied the antibacterial activity of graphene oxide(GO)against P.gingivalis ATCC 33277 and F.nucleatum ATCC 10953,and revealed its antibacterial mechanism preliminary.Materials and methods: P.gingivalis ATCC 33277 and F.nucleatum ATCC 10953 were coincubated with GO for 2 hours and the final concentrations of GO were 0 ?g/mL,20 ?g/mL,40 ?g/mL,80 ?g/mL,respectively.Its antibacterial activity was tested by MTT,CFU,growth curve and CLSM,while the antibacterial mechanism was revealed by TEM.Results: GO,at low concentration(20 ?g/mL),showed strong antibacterial activity against P.gingivalis ATCC 33277,however,when the concentration of GO reached 40 ?g/mL,it showed antibacterial activity against F.nucleatum ATCC 10953.With the increasing concentration of GO,its antibacterial activity against both two strains went stronger. The results of TEM indicated that GO could destroy the two bacterial strains by damaging their cell walls and membranes. Conclusion: GO showed significant antibacterial activity against both P.gingivalis ATCC 33277 and F.nucleatum ATCC 10953,and its antibacterial activity went stronger with the increasing of its concentration. The damage to the cell walls and membranes caused by GO might be the reason for the death of the two bacterial strains.
