Renal artery stenosis is a common vascular disease, caused by many factors, often involving unilateral or bilateral renal arteries, renal artery stenosis leads to insufficient renal perfusion and further activation of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system leading to secondary hypertension, excessive activation of the endocrine system can further lead to heart damage and even flash pulmonary oedema, ischemic nephropathy,For the treatment of renal artery stenosis,it is necessary to formulate a reasonable treatment plan based on the determination of etiology. For renal artery stenosis caused by atherosclerosis, lipid lowering, blood pressure control and antiplatelet therapy are the main methods. For renal artery stenosis caused by Takayasu's arteritis, glucocorticoid therapy is needed in acute stage. At present, there is some controversy about the choice of surgical treatment.More than 70% of vascular stenosis is a powerful anatomical feature for surgical treatment. It should be emphasized that renal artery stenosis caused by Takayasu arteritis is not suitable for surgical treatment in acute stage. This article will discuss the relationship between renal artery stenosis and heart failure from the aspects of clinical manifestation, pathogenesis and treatment outcome.
