ObjectiveJiangsu Province,China,is highly developed economically and culturally, and has a high prevalence of lung cancer. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic methods, genetic aberration analysis status, and first-line treatment models of lung cancer in Jiangsu Province.MethodsLung cancer patients diagnosed in 2016 at 22 tertiary care hospitals were evaluated.Demographic characteristics, tumor histology, staging, family history of lung cancer, auxiliary examinations, genetic testing, and first-line treatment were collected on discharge.Diagnostic and treatment data were analyzed by descriptive statistics.ResultsA total of 928 patients were enrolled.Chest computed tomography was the most frequently used imagological examination;pathology diagnosis was carried out mainly by bronchoscopy and transthoracic needle aspiration. The predominant first-line chemotherapy regimen of SCLC was platinum and etoposide.Stage I non-small cell lung cancer patients experienced surgical resection(97.9%);65.0% of stage II NSCLC received surgery and 50% of them experienced adjuvant chemotherapy;half of stage IIIA patients used first-line chemotherapy, but no radiotherapy simultaneously;for stage IIIB/IV patients,61.8% experienced systemic chemotherapy and 33.6% received molecular targeted therapy.First-line chemotherapy regimen of squamous lung cancers including platinum plus gemcitabine(35.2%),platinum plus docetaxel(33.6%),and platinum plus paclitaxel(24.6%).However,for non-squamous nonsmall cell lung cancers, platinum plus pemetrexed dominate.Detection of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)mutations occurred in 27.2% of all patients,32.3% of NSCLC,and 46.8% of adenocarcinoma, the positive rates were 52.4%,52.6%,and 55.4% respectively.Detection rate of ALK,c-Met,ROS1,and RET were 12.0%,1.2%,2.8%,and 0.3%.86.5% of patients with EGFR mutations were treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors.270(29.1%)patients didn't receive any treatment at diagnosis.ConclusionDetection rate of gene aberration was still low in Jiangsu Province.First-line treatment was primarily consilient with guidance, with few expectations. The percentage of patients receiving treatment at diagnosis should be elevated.
