Objectives:1.To investigate the current status of learning stress,self-compassion,study engagement and academic burnout of nursing students and analyze the relationship among these factors.2.To analyze the influences of general information, learning stress,self-compassion and study engagement on academic burnout,so as to provide basis for reducing academic burnout of nursing students and improving teaching quality.Methods:1.A cross-sectional design was used. The data were collected with a general information questionnaire,Learning Stress Scale,Self-Compassion Scale,Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-Student and Academic Burnout Scale.2.Convenience sampling was used to investigate 655 nursing students from two medical universities and one medical professional college in Guangzhou during April to May 2018.3.Data were analyzed by SPSS20.0 and AMOS 17.0.Statistical methods included descriptive analysis,T-test,ANOVA,Spearman correlation analysis, regression analysis and path analysis.Results:1.Nursing students'academic burnout was at the medium level. The incidence of academic burnout of undergraduate nursing students was 65.6%.The total score of academic burnout was(57.94±10.13)and the total average score was(2.90±0.51).The incidence of academic burnout of associate degree nursing students was 62.7%.The total score of academic burnout was(56.35±10.17)and the total average score was(2.82±0.51).Among them, first grades'level of academic burnout was higher than other grades'(P<0.05).Students who were only child in family had a higher level of academic burnout than those who were not only child(P<0.05).Students who chose nursing as major based on their parents and others had a higher level of academic burnout than those by themselves(P<0.05).Students who were not class cadres had a higher level of academic burnout than those who were class cadres(P<0.05).Students with poor academic performance had a higher level of academic burnout than those with other learning conditions(P<0.05).Students with an introverted personality had a higher level of academic burnout than those with other types(P<0.05).Students with permissive parenting style had a higher level of academic burnout than those with other types(P<0.05).Students with low parental support had a higher level of academic burnout than those with high parental support(P<0.05).Students who felt negative about the career prospects had a higher level of academic burnout than those who felt optimistic(P<0.05).2.Nursing students'learning stress was at the medium level.43.2%of undergraduate nursing students were under relatively high pressure in study. The total score of academic burnout was(7.16±2.28)and the total average score was(0.45±0.14).29.4%of associate degree nursing students were under relatively high pressure in study. The total score of academic burnout was(6.43±2.23)and the total average score was(0.40±0.14).Learning stress was positively correlated with academic burnout and each dimension(P<0.05).3.Nursing students'self–compassion was at medium level. The total score of self–compassion of undergraduate nursing students was(80.54±9.72)and the total average score was(3.10±0.37).The total score of self–compassion of associate degree nursing students was(83.19±10.93)and the total average score was(3.20±0.42).Self–compassion was negatively correlated with academic burnout and each dimension(P<0.01).4.Nursing students'study engagement was at medium level. The total score of academic engagement of undergraduate nursing students was(65.77±12.83)and the total average score was(3.87±0.76).The total score of study engagement of associate degree nursing students was(67.00±12.56)and the total average score was(3.93±0.74).Study engagement and each dimension was negatively correlated with academic burnout and each dimension(P<0.01).5.Study engagement, academic performance,self-compassion,learning stress, parenting style, student cadres were predictive factors of academic burnout of undergraduate nursing students(R~2=0.551).Study engagement,self-compassion,learning stress, student cadres were predictive factors of depression(R~2=0.358).Academic performance, study engagement, parenting style were predictive factors of misconduct(R~2=0.378).Study engagement, learning stress, grades, academic performance, parenting style, employment prospects, voluntary choices,self-compassion were predictive factors of low sense of achievement(R~2=0.431).Study engagement,self-compassion,learning stress, grades were predictive factors of academic burnout of associate degree nursing students(R~2=0.616).Study engagement,self-compassion,learning stress were predictive factors of depression(R~2=0.415).Study engagement,self-compassion,academic performance were predictive factors of misconduct(R~2=0.393).Study engagement,self-compassion,grades,learning stress, personality were predictive factors of low sense of achievement(R~2=0.565).6.The model goodness of fit was well.Learning stress of undergraduate nursing students could directly influence academic burnout(r=0.14),and indirectly influence academic burnout through self-compassion(r=0.032).Self-compassion could directly influence academic burnout(r=-0.19).Study engagement of undergraduate nursing students could directly influence academic burnout(r=-0.64),and indirectly influence academic burnout through self-compassion(r=-0.048).Learning stress of associate degree nursing students could directly influence academic burnout(r=0.10),and indirectly influence academic burnout through self-compassion(r=0.056).Self-compassion could directly influence academic burnout(r=-0.51).Study engagement of undergraduate nursing students could directly influence academic burnout(r=-0.65),and indirectly influence academic burnout through self-compassion(r=-0.189).Conclusion:1.Nursing students'academic burnout was at the medium level, manifested mainly by misconduct. The burnout of undergraduate nursing students was higher than those of associate degree nursing students.Students who were in first-grade,only child in family, choosing nursing as major based on their parents and others,non-student cadres, poor academic performance, introverted personality, permissive parenting style, low family support, and negatively considered the employment prospects had a higher level of academic burnout.2.Nursing students'learning stress was at the medium level and curriculum learning and examination were the main sources of stress. The learning stress of undergraduate nursing students was higher than those of associate degree nursing students.Nursing students'self-compassion was at the medium level and the score of mindfulness was the highest. The self-compassion of undergraduate nursing students was lower than those of associate degree nursing students.Nursing students'study engagement was at the medium level and the score of dedication was the highest. There was no significant difference in study engagement between undergraduate nursing students and associate degree nursing students.3.Academic burnout of nursing students was positively correlated with learning stress and negatively with self-compassion and study engagement.Learning stress and study engagement of nursing students could not only directly influence academic burnout, but also indirectly influence academic burnout through self-compassion.That was,self-compassion played a partial mediating role between learning pressure and academic burnout, and between study engagement and academic burnout.
