An Application Research On The Combination Coding Of ICD-10

This paper explicitizes the rules of the combination code by explaining the ICD-10 combination coding definition,mining and collating cases of combined diseases,and appling a hybrid strategy-based text literal similarity calculation method to achieve automatic combined coding of diagnostic texts.ICD-10 is an international classification standard of diseases developed by the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization.It classifies and encodes diseases according to anatomical sites,pathogenic factors,and clinical manifestations of the disease.Combination coding is one step in the ICD-10 classification process,which refers to the classification of two or more disease conditions that are both contemporaneous and relevant are not classified separately,but in one consolidated category.Actually,it is still necessary to rely on professional knowledge and experience to judge whether need to merge codes or not in daily coding work,and there are few well-documented related instance databases also the computer aided combined coding system.In this paper,we find the potential relationship between combination codes and make them explicit to form data sets by learning the conceptions of combination codes,doing expert interview,analyzing instances and information;apply medical word segmentation to generate synonyms based thesaurus,and use natural language processing techniques such as exact string matching,weighted matching based on main component,weighted matching based on keywords,and string matching based on mixed strategy to explore how to automatically determine if groups of diagnostic texts need to be combined coding.Based on the results,we have developed and designed a computer-based combined coding function module and integrated it into a computer-aided ICD-10 coding system,which will be actually applied to the coding work of medical institutions.As an integral part of the ICD-10 coding process,clarifying the existing rules of combination coding,generating combined coding examples,realizing computer-assisted combined coding are great important in the ICD-10 coding clinical work,teaching and promotion of ICD-10 coding,etc.
