Objective:To investigate the value of phase angle in evaluating recipient nutritional status after paediatric liver transplantation in patients with biliary atresia. Methods:The nutritional status of 61 paediatric living doner liver transplant recipients from January 2018 to June 2018 was assessed by anthropometric measurements and bioelectric impedance analysis(BIA).BIA measurements were obtained on day 1 and day 2 post-operatively.Outcome variables included length of intensive care unit stay, duration of mechanical ventilation, days of hospitalisation, and post-operative infection. The difference of the phase angle among the different prognostic groups was analysed. Results:The phase angle was correlated with length of ICU stay and length of hospital stay, and the correlation coefficient was-0.468 and-0.371(P<0.05),while it was not significantly correlated with the duration of mechanical ventilation, and the correlation coefficient of-0.229(P>0.05).There was no significant correlation between Z score and duration of mechanical ventilation, length of ICU stay and length of hospital stay, and the correlation coefficients of-0.132,-0.172 and-0.124(P>0.05).Conclusion:Z score may not be able to determine the prognosis and nutritional status of children with biliary atresia. The phase angle could be a better indicator for evaluating postoperative outcome and nutritional status of patients undergoing paediatric liver transplantation.
