Euphorbia L.is the largest genus of Euphorbiaceae.Most plants of this genus contain a milky irritant latex,and the whole plants roots,stems,leaves,seeds and latex of them were investigated in chemical and pharmacological studies.Diterpenoids,the main active constituents of Euphorbia?E.?plants,are the focus of natural product drug discovery due to the complex structure and various biological activities.E.Semen is the dried ripe seeds of E.lathyris L..Studies have shown that the diterpenoids,sterols,coumarins of E.semen have anti-cancer,anti-inflammatory,analgesia,whitening activities.In order to better develop and use medicinal resources of E.plants and enrich the chemical composition of E.semen,the chemical composition were studied systematically.The total CH3CN extract of E.semen was obtained by EtOH soaking and Petroleum ether-CH3CN extraction.And then,27 compounds were isolated by varing separation methods like chromatography and recrystallization.Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses and literature comparison.Among them,seven new compounds were determined as Euphorbia Factors L27-L28?1-2?,Premylanin?3?,Euphorbia Factors L30-L33?4-7?.Twenty known compounds were identified as Euphorbia Factor L1?8?,Euphorbia Factor L2?9?,Euphorbia Factor L3?10?,Euphorbia Factor L7a?11?,Euphorbia Factor L7b?12?,Euphorbia Factor L8?13?,Euphorbia Factor L9?14?,Euphorbia Factor L10?15?,Euphorbia Factor L11?16?,Euphorbia Factor L12?17?,Euphorbia Factor L15?18?,Euphorbia Factor L17?19?,Euphorbia Factor L18?20?,Euphorbia Factor L23?21?,Euphorbia Factor L24?22?,Euphorbia Factor L26?23?,Lathyranoic acid A?24?,Epoxyboetirane A?25?,Piscatoriol B?26?,Euphoscopoid C?27?.Furthermore,the anti-cancer activity of compounds1-6,8-27 was investigated by MTT assay,which showed compound 2 had strong inhitory effects on MCF-7 and HepG2 cancer cells and compound 22 had significant inhitory effects on HCT-116,MCF-7,786-0 and HepG2 cancer cells.In addition,384 diterpenoids isolated from E.plant in recent six years and their physiological activities were also summarized.
