Objective: To explore the relation between CT features and prognostic factors of the maxillary tumors and tumor-like lesions. Methods: All cases were selected from our hospital with available CT data between January 2003 to December 2013,and confirmed with pathological examination.According to pathological results,332 cases were divided into two groups: the benign group(145 cases)and the malignant group(187 cases). The clinical and CT imaging data were both collected, and analyzed statistically.Result:(1)According to clinical statistics, the benign group showed earlier onset age and longer onset time than the malignant group did(benign,34.19 ± 19.64 years old,739.65 ± 1252.94 days;malignant,46.39±18.79 years old,327.93±1058.78 days).Gender had no significant difference between these two groups.(2)There are total 42 pathology types of tumors and(or)lesions in these two groups. The most common benign tumor was ameloblastoma, and the most common malignant one was osteosarcoma.(3)The benign group exhibited smaller averaged lesion diameter(3.43 ± 1.44 cm / 4.26 ± 1.66cm)in CT imaging, more homogeneous-density case percentage(33.3% / 9.2%),and less surrounding-tissue-penetrated case percentage(32.9 % / 89.2%)compared to the malignant group. While no significant difference in bone destruction was observed between two groups.(4)The malignant group's median survival time was 3186 days, and all members in the benign group were still alive by the time of this study.Tumor type and whether recurrence influenced the survival curves of the malignant group, and whether the patients got the postoperative treatment or whether they take referral had no significant difference in the survival curves.Conclusion:(1)Late onset age, short onset time indicated malignancy of the maxillary tumors.Clinical manifestations between benign and malignancy was different, but they were no obvious specificity.(2)Larger diameter and uneven density lesions with surrounding tissue penetrated were often malignant.Increased CT value and the maximum tumor diameter influenced the survival rate, but neither of them are the main factor.(3)There were a wide range of jaw tumor, and their radiological features were often similar,so the morphology characteristics should be considered together with clinical history, epidemiology, the lesion site, the lesion's relation with teeth and other information to diagnose.
