Objective: As a common senile degeneration, asteroid hyalosis has its unique systemic and local characteristics. The subject of this essay is to analyze the clinical features, treatment and prognosis of asteroid hyalosis. Methods: Retrospective analysis all cases of asteroid hyalosis in our hospital within 5years.The data collected included age, sex, history of systemic diseases, initial and final visual acuity, course of disease, complete ocular examination, operation options, treatment and prognosis.Data Analysis with SPSS 20.0 Statistical Software.T test is used for continuous variable data, rank sum test for the data not conform to normal distrbution law,and P < 0.05 as a significant difference standard. Results:Among the 52 eyes of 50 subjects, the average age was 72.1 ±8.5 years old,24 males(24/50,48%)and 26 females(26/50,52%).Among the 50 eyes of 50 subjects,26 cases(26/50,52 %)for the right eye,22 cases(22/50,44 %)for the left eye,2 cases(2/50,4%)for binoculus.Among the 50 subjects,30 cases(30/50,60%)were complicated with hypertension,23 cases(23/50,46%)had diabetes mellitus,14 cases(14/50,28%)had coronary heart disease,16 cases(16/32,64%)had hyperlipidemia and 17 cases(17/50,34%)had hypercholesterolemia. The average axial lengths of asteroid hyalosis eyes was 22.82±0.71 mm.The average visual acuity was 4.09±0.25.Among the 48 patients with AH,44(44/48,92%)had typical manifestations in B ultrasonic. In the static state, isolated points of light in the vitreous body cavity can be seen to form a spherical strong echo group, and there is a low echo area between them and the wall of the ball.Among the 52 eyes of 50 AH patients,26 eyes of 26 patients underwent simple cataract phacoemulsification,10 eyes of 8 patients underwent cataract phacoemulsification combined with pars plana vitrectomy and 5 eyes of 5 patients underwent pars plana vitrectomy. All 15 eyes were seen abnormal vitreoretinal adhesions intraoperatively and there are no posterior vitreous detachment could be seen.Paired sample t test was used to compare the preoperative and postoperative visual acuity of 5 patients and the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant(P=0.813>0.05).Rank sum test was adopted to compare the preoperative and postoperative visual acuity of 10 eyes of 8patients,and there were significant trends(P=0.049 < 0.05).No calcification of intraocular lens was found in all AH patients during postoperative follow-up.Conclusion: AH patients had a short ocular axis,B ultrasound has advantages in diagnosing the disease. In AH patients, the posterior vitreous cortex is often closely adhered to the retina, and the posterior vitreous detachment rarely occurs. For AH with severe symptoms,PPV surgery can improve the visual quality of patients.
