The treatment goal for chronic hepatitis B(CHB)is to minimize hepatitis B virus in the long term and reduce the inflammatory necrosis and fibrosis of hepatocytes, but this is rarely achieved because of an inability to disrupt covalently closed circular DNA(cccDNA)and an inadequate host immune response. On the one hand, some CHB patients still have the possibility of recurrence after stopping the drug.Even if the serum HBV DNA and HBsAg are negative, the condition will progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The presence of cccDNA leads to chronic infection of HBV,but the detection of HBV cccDNA in hepatocytes is inconvenient, which limits its clinical application. Therefore,it is urgent to develop new detection techniques and detection markers to develop more scientific criteria for drug withdrawal. In recent years, some new antiviral agents target various stages of the hepatitis B virus lifecycle,or aim at modulation of the immune system, provide the possibility of a cure for hepatitis B.
