Shanghanlun, whose author Zhang Zhongjing in the first Han Dynasty,on the basis of medical achievements before Han Dynasty and his own clinical experience, creates the first clinical classic, from which we can sense its scientific standards and practical value in the history of traditional Chinese medicine. With the spread and development of traditional Chinese medicine in the world, the extremely high value of Shanghanlun in traditional Chinese medicine determines its important position in the communication of Chinese medicine culture with foreign countries. As an important carrier of Chinese medicine culture,it plays a pivotal role in the dissemination of traditional Chinese medicine, and in the acceleration of the internationalization of TCM.Eco-translatology,originated from the ecological wisdom of Huaxia people,is dedicated to depicting the translation ecology itself and translation theory from the ecological perspective.Eco-translatology interprets translation methods as translators' adaptive selection and transformation of texts in multi-dimensions and at different levels under the eco-translation environment, especially focusing on the adaptation of language, culture and communication. This study selects popular and the latest translations of Shanghanlun. From the perspective of ecological translation,it adopts literature research, text analysis, grammar analysis, transculture research and other research methods to analyze the translation texts. In the light of the “translator-centered” and “three-dimensional transformation” theory, this thesis analyzes the translation methods and translation features in the translations of Shanghanlun, and focuses on the reasons and internal factors behind the differences in translation so as to provide new perspectives for the English translation of Shanghanlun and the other TCM classics. This paper summarizes the strategies and methods of English translation of TCM classics:the translator should be the center of translation;reasonable three-dimensional transformation according to the purpose of translation;the flexible diversity oftranslation methods should be adhered to in translation;appropriately add comments to achieve translation peer-to-peer conversion.
