Purpose: We aimed to investigate the prognostic values of hematological parameters(blood routine, biochemical markers, and tumor markers)for survival in metastatic gastric cancer(mGC)patients with treatments. Methods: This study retrospectively collected the hematological parameters of patients with mGC diagnosed by pathology from January 2010 to December 2017 in our institution. The clinical stage of the disease was determined according to the 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer guidelines. The survival data of mGC patients included in the study was evaluated according to the solid tumor efficacy evaluation standard version 1.1.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. Results: A total of 627 gastric cancer patients were initially diagnosed by pathology accepted treate at our institution between January 2010 and December 2017,including 286 mGC patients.Among these mGC patients,203 received first-line chemotherapy,66 received second-line therapy, and 32 received continuous and effective apatinib treatment.Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio(NLR)is significantly associated with prognosis in mGC patients with first-line chemotherapy.Patients were divided with NLR=2.425 as the cutoff value.Patients with high NLR group had shorter progression-free survival and overall survival.Multivariate analysis showed that high NLR was an independent risk factor for theprognosis of mGC patients with first-line therapy. For mGC patients treated with second-line chemotherapy, monocyte to lymphocyte ratio(MLR)is associated with survival of these patients. The high MLR group(MLR>0.350)also indicated poor clinical outcomes.NLR was also related with PFS in patients treated with apatinib. Conclusions: NLR and MLR are two simple, inexpensive and easily available predictors,if properly combined and applied, that will help predict prognosis of mGC patients.
