Objective:This study aims to compare and analyze the relationship between the clinical symptoms and the serum irisin concentration of female breast cancer patients, analyzes the value of measuring serum irisin concentration in the clinical diagnosis of breast cancer, reveals its role in the prognostic evaluation of breast cancer patients, and explores its clinical significance. Methods:A total of 119 cases of histopathologically confirmed female breast cancer patients and 119 cases of healthy women in the Yinzhou People Hospital from May 2012 to May 2013 were included in this study, whose serums were collected to detect irisin levels.Then,Chi-square test was used to analyze clinicopathological characteristics. The risk factors of breast cancer were analyzed by binary logistic regression,as well as the diagnostic value of serum irisin concentrations in breast cancer was analyzed by ROC curve.Furthermore, the prognostic value of irisin in relation to 5-year overall survival and disease free survival was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazard models. Results:Serum irisin concentrations in female breast cancer patients were significantly lower than those in the control group(t=7.095,p<0.001).Binary logistic regression were performed to confirm that serum irisin concentrations and lipid metabolism disorders represented risk factors for female breast cancer patients(both p<0.05).Serum irisin concentrations, which were less than 3.2 microns/ml,had 76.5%sensitivity and 63.0%specificity to diagnose breast cancer.Besides, serum irisin concentrations were significantly decreased in patients with large tumor diameter, high TNM stage, lymphatic metastasis, high histological grade and high nuclear grade(all p<0.05).Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that lymphatic metastasis(HR=3.324,95%ci=1.892-5.673,p<0.001)and low serum irisin concentration(HR=0.511,95%ci=0.490-0.718,p<0.001)were independent risk factors for shortening the 5-year total survival time of female breast cancer patients.Furthermore, lymphatic metastasis(HR=2.900,95%ci=1.782-4.982,p<0.001)and low serum irisin concentration(HR=0.550,95%ci=0.401-0.753,p<0.001)were also independent risk factors for shortening the 5-year disease-free survival time. Conclusion:Accordingly, low serum irisin concentrations could be of great clinical value in the diagnosis of female breast cancer,as well as serum irisin concentration changes havehigh sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of breast cancer.Besides, low serum irisin concentrations and lymphatic metastasis are independent risk factors for shortening 5-year total survival time and 5-year disease-free survival time in female breast cancer patients, which could serve as an independent prognostic biomarker.
