Objective: To investigate the correlation between the expression level of Syndecan-1 and clinicopathological features or prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer. Methods: The colorectal cancer tissue micro-array was used which including 513 CRC tissues,73 normal colorectal tissues and 79 metastatic lymph node tissues.Syndecan-1 expression was detected by immunohistochemistry, and the correlation between the expression level of Syndecan-1 and clinicopathological features as well as prognosis were statistically analyzed in patients with colorectal cancer;Western Blot was performed to detect the expression level of Syndecan-1 in CRC tissues and their matched adjacent normal colorectal epithelial tissues. Results: 1.Compared with normal colorectal tissue,Syndecan-1expression was decreased in CRC tissues(p<0.001)and metastatic lymph node tissues(p<0.001).2.The loss of Syndecan-1 protein expression was correlated with differentiation of CRC patients(p = 0.017),clinical stage(p ? 0.001)and regional lymph node metastasis(p < 0.001),overall survival(p < 0.0001),but not with patient gender(P=0.686),age(P=0.345),tumor size(P=0.232)and tumor location(P=0.570).Conclusion: 1.Syndecan-1 is deficient in colorectal cancer patients.2.The expression of Syndecan-1 is associated with differentiation, clinical stage, lymph node metastasis, prognosis, and the loss of Syndecan-1 expression means lower differentiation, higher clinical stage, lymph node metastasis promotion, and poor prognosis.3.The deficient expression of Syndecan-1 could be used as a molecular marker for poor prognosis of CRC.
