Objective:To report the infection of eyelash mites in patients with Demodex blepharitis and the effect of Repelling Demodex combined with anti-inflammatory treatment on the infection status of Demodex.Method:Case-control study.Twenty-one patients with Demodex folliculitis who were admitted to the Department of Ophthalmology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University(Nanning,China)from September 2017to September 2018 were enrolled as the study group.Fifteen patients without blepharitis at the same time were used as a control group. There were 7 males and 14 females with a mean age of 47 years in the study group. And here were 4males and 11 females with an average age of 47 years in the control group.Eyelash sampling and Demodex counts were performed in both groups.Record the subjective symptom scores,BUT and corneal fluorescein staining results for patients with Demodex blepharitis. The above examinations were repeated again after 4 weeks of treatment. The number of Demodex, subjective symptom score, tear film rupture time and corneal fluorescein staining results did not conform to the normal distribution. They are expressed as median(P75-P25).Result:The number of Demodex infections in the study group and the control group were 6(3)and 0(1),respectively(Z=-5.128,P=0.000).And their infection rates were 100%and 33.3%,respectively(?~2=19.385,P=0.000),and the difference was statistically significant. The subjective symptom scores of the study group before and after treatment were 3(2)and 1(1)(Z=-4.005,P=0.000),and BUT was 3(1.5)seconds and 5(1.5)seconds(Z=-3.769,P=0.000),the difference was statistically significant. The positive rate of corneal fluorescein staining before and after treatment in the study group was 19%and9.5%,respectively,and the difference was not statistically significant(?~2=0.778,P=0.331).Conclusion:For patients with Demodex blepharitis, combined treatment of anti-mite,anti-inflammatory,hot compress, massage and cleansing can help improve subjective symptoms and partial eye signs.
