Background:Diabetic foot ulcers are a common and serious global health problem.Dressings are a key part of the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, and clinicians and patients have a variety of different types of dressings to choose from, including alginate dressings. However, the efficacy and safety of alginate dressings remains controversial. Therefore,it is necessary to systematically evaluate all current evidence of alginate dressings for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers to help clinicians make the right clinical decisions. Objectives:To compare the effectiveness and safety of alginate dressings and traditional dressings in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. Methods:In December 2018,we searched the following databases: PubMed?Embase,?the Cochrane Library?CBM?CNKI?Wan fang Data?VIP Data, and other Chinese and English databases. There were no restrictions based on language or date of publication.A published or unpublished randomized controlled trial(RCT)comparing the effectiveness and safety of alginate dressings with traditional wound dressings for diabetic foot ulcers was included. Two reviewers independently completed the selection into the study, assessing the risk of bias and data extraction.Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3.Results:17 RCTs,with a total of 1339 patients, were included in the present study. The main results showed that alginate dressings had higher complete healing rate [OR=2.47,95%CI(1.85,3.30),P<0.001] and shorter healing time [MD=-7.43,95%CI(-9.57,-5.28),P<0.001]than basic wound contact dressing.alginate dressings had shorter Change dressing time[MD=-4.63,95%CI(-5.53,-3.72),P<0.001] and less Changing frequency [MD =-7.29,95%CI(-9.30,-5.29),P<0.001]than basic wound contact dressings two studies reported side effect in all the included studies, however, there were no evidence that it was related to alginate dressings. Conclusion:Alginate dressing is a relatively safe and effective treatment for diabetic foot ulcers. However, due to the influence of the quantity and quality of the included study, the results of this study need to be verified by more high quality researches so that this form of treatment can be widely applied.
