Objective: To explore the related factors of nasopharyngeal osteoradionecrosis(NORN)after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, evaluate its local treatment methods, and further improve the prevention and treatment level of this disease. Methods: The clinical data of fourteen patients diagnosed as NORN with nasopharyngeal carcinoma after radiotherapy were collected and analyzed to evaluate the local therapeutic effects of nasopharyngeal irrigation, endoscopic cleaning and local medication, and surgical resection of necrotic lesions. Results: The latent periods of NORN in the patients after primary radiotherapy were 6-192 months with a median time of 84 months, while the periods were 2-108 months in the patients after reirradiation and themedian time were 7 months.Mild NORN was found in 2 cases and cured in 2 cases.Nasopharyngeal irrigation and endoscopic cleaning and local medication were used.Among 8 cases with moderate NORN,2 cases were cured and 6 cases improved,6 patients of which underwent resection of nasopharyngeal necrotic lesions. There were 4 cases of severe NORN,2 cases were cured by resection of nasopharyngeal necrotic lesions, and 2 cases died of nasopharyngeal hemorrhage. Conclusion: NORN after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma is related to the dose and course of radiotherapy.Sinusitis and general condition are related to NORN.Nasopharyngeal irrigation, nasal endoscopic cleaning and local medication are of great help to the prognosis of NORN.The effect of surgical treatment is better.
