Objective To compare the effect of esophageal variceal ligation(EVL)and esophageal variceal sclerotherapy(EVS)on patients with cirrhotic esophageal variceal bleeding(EVB).Methods The meta-analysis was performed using the RevMan5.3.5 software of the Cochrane Library by searching the databases of Cochrane Library,Springer,Pubmed,Sinomed,CNKI,Wanfang,VIP and so on.Results A total of 11 randomized controlled trials were included in the meta-analysis.The results of the analysis showed that the recurrence of esophageal venous recurrence in the EVL group was lower than that in the EVS group(RR=0.66,95%CI:0.52~0.83,Z=3.56,P<0.001).There was no significant difference in mortality between the two groups(RR=0.81,95%CI:0.65 ~ 1.02,Z=1.76,P=0.08);the incidence of postoperative complications in the EVL group was lower than that in the EVS group(RR=0.39,95%CI:0.24~0.63,Z=3.86,P<0.001);There was no significant difference between the two groups in the esophageal varices eradication rate(RR=1.04,95%CI:0.98~1.11,Z=1.32,P=0.19).Funnel plot analysis suggested that the publication bias of the included literature in this meta-analysis was small. Conclusion EVL can achieve better results than EVS in the treatment of cirrhotic esophageal varices bleeding.
