Rumination is a method of thinking that individuals repeatedly think about themselves and what happened. It is usually considered negative, and is a causative factor of some mental illnesses such as depression. But researchers have found that rumination contains both positive and negative aspects, and positive rumination may be protective factors for depression.Although there are many studies on the cognitive mechanism of rumination,no consensus has yet been reached. This study chooses positive and negative rumination, attention bias and memory refresh as indicators to explore the differences in rumination and cognitive mechanism between depressive patients and normal people. We selected 67 patients and 65 healthy controls. After completing the scale of positive and negative rumination, all patients were randomly assigned to the attention bias experiment and the memory updating experiment.34 patients and 32 healthy controls completed the attention bias experiment.33 patients and 33 healthy controls completed the memory updating experiment. Conclusion:The positive rumination of depressive patients are lower than normal ones, and the negative rumination are stronger than normal ones. The attention bias between depressive patients and normal people is not significant, and the memory updating function in depressive patients is lower than normal people. This study provides a basis for memory updating as a cognitive mechanism of rumination.
