Objective:1.To analyze the airway three dimensional CBCT dates in skeletal class ? patients,we compared the gender differences of the airway in different age groups,in order to provide some references for diagnosis and treatment in skeletal class ? patients.2.To analyze the airway dates from the skeletal class ? patients before orthodontic treatment,we compared the correlation with the airway in lateral cephalograms and CBCT,to determine the accuracy of lateral cephalograms in the primary diagnosis of airway.Methods:1.A total of 120 skeletal ? patients were randomly selected from Stomatology Hospital of Jilin university at the age of 9-20 years according to the gender and age.CBCT images were taken and input into the Dolphin Imaging. We measured the airway volume(V),height(H),minimum cross-sectional area(minCSA),cross-sectional area of boundary plane(CSA),antero-posterior dimension of boundary plane(AP),lateral dimension of boundary plane(LAT),and shape of boundary plane(LAT/AP).Using t-test or non-parametric test to analyze the gender difference in different age groups concerning the dates in CBCT.2.A total of 170 skeletal II patients were randomly included in the study, and it was essential that the lateral cephalograms and CBCT images taken at the same time.We got the airway volume and base plane area by inputting CBCT dates into the Dolphin Imaging and the airway area by inputting lateral dates into the Geometry Sketchpad.Using the Pearson analysis to compare the correlation in lateral cephalograms and CBCT.Results:1.In group 1(9-12years),VGP,minCSAAPP,minCSAGP,CSAPNS,CSAUT,CSATE of airway measurement values of girls were significantly larger than boys, while HT,HHyP smaller than boys.2.In group 2(13-15 years),LATTE of airway measurement values of boys were significantly larger than girls, and the other values were no gender-related difference.3.In group 3(16-20 years),VT,minCSAHyP,CSATE,HT,HNP,HGP,APTE,LATTE of boys were significantly larger than girls.4.A high correlation was found in the nasopharyngeal airway about the consistency of lateral cephalograms and CBCT.The oropharyngeal airway,PNS plane, and TE plane were moderate correlations. The hypopharyngeal airway, and UT plane were weak correlations. The height of glossopharyngeum were moderate correlations, while the other values in height were weak correlations.Conclusion:1.At the age of 9-12,girls are greater than boys about the skeletal class II patients'airway form;at the age of 13-15,there is no significantly gender differences;and at the age of 16-20,the airway form were greater in male than in female about the skeletal class ? patients.2.Lateral cephalograms can reflect the airway condition in nasopharynx and oropharynx about the skeletal class patients.
