Background:Local and systemic hypercoagulability are often found with microcirculatory disturbances, which are mediated by an imbalance between procoagulant and anticoagulant factors in LC patients. We evaluated the VWF,ADAMTS13 and factor F? as well as the severity of liver disease in LC patients with ABO blood groups. Methods:A total of 228 patients with LC and 168 healthy controls were eligible for this case-control study.VWF and ADAMTS13 levels were assessed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay;F ? activity,D-dimmer and Fibrinogen were measured by an automated coagulometric method with commercial kits.ABO blood group phenotyping was performed by the indirect technique with Anti-A and Anti-B Blood Grouping Reagents.Results:1.Increased VWF levels,F VIII activity,D-dimmer levels and decreased ADAMTS13 levels,Fibrinogen, platelet count were found in LC patients compared with healthy controls(p<0.001)(Table 1).2.The ABO blood groups,VWF antigen and ADAMTS13 antigen levels were associated with CTP and MELD scores in LC patients(p<0.05 for each)(Table 3).In addition,non-O blood group and higher VWF levels were associated with higher frequencies of ascites and portal vein thrombosis(p<0.05 for each).3.In LC patients without thrombosis, there were significantly higher VWF levels and F VIII activity in non-0 blood group patients compared with those in O blood group(p<0.001 for each)(Table 2),and significant results remained when patients were subgrouped according to Child-Turcotte-Pugh(CTP)and the model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)scores(p<0.05 for each)(Fig.2,3).However,no differences were found in ADAMTS13 levels between O and non-0 blood groups(p=0.732).Conclusion:1.ABO blood groups were associated with the severity of liver disease in LC patients, the more serious disease in non-O blood group LC patients without thrombosis were found compared with O blood group patients.Non-O blood group patients tended to form microcirculatory disturbances, which lead to some frequent complications, such as portal vein thrombosis and ascites.2.From the results of our research,it is reasonable to propose that non-O blood group patients with LC need continuous follow-up regularly to minimize the occurrence of same complications.
