Objectives:The objective of this study was to identify factors that may affect adult patient orthodontic effect evaluation after orthodontic treatment,in order to better design an orthodontic treatment plan for adult patients, improve the clinical efficacy, and provide reference for understanding the psychological status of patients.Materials and Methods:Ninety-three patients(30 males and 63females;mean age24.7±5.4 years)who successfully had finished fixed orthodontic treatment inDalian stomatological hospital affiliated to dalian medical university were included in the study. All subjects were treated with upper and lower fixed orthodontic appliances for an average duration of 26.5±10.7 months and were in the retention stage(6~12 months)with upper and lower vacuum-formed retainers.Basic informationwas recorded, and two questionnaires were sent to each person for cross-sectional study.Orthodontic TreatmentTherapeutic Evaluation questionnaire was used to assess the effect of orthodontic treatment on daily living and satisfaction with the dentition in the study sample. The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised Short Scale Chinese version(EPQ-RSC)was used to assess personality profiles in the study sample.Data analysis was carried out by theStatistical Product and Service Solutions(SPSS)computer software version 23.0.Two group differences were tested by independent sample t-test.One-Way analysis of variance was used for the differences among groups.Correlations between personality and patient therapeutic evaluation were performed using Pearson's correlation test. Results:The Orthodontic TreatmentTherapeutic Evaluation questionnaire's validity and reliability are good. There was a positive correlation between the extroversion scores and the social influence and the total evaluation of the orthodontictreatment(p<0.05).Neuroticismscores were negatively correlated with functional, comfort, social influence and total evaluation of the orthodontic treatment(p<0.05).There were significant differences in scores of individual items in the EPQ-RSC and the Orthodontic TreatmentTherapeutic Evaluation questionnaireform among patients with different neurotic tendencies(p<0.05).There was no significant difference in the overall therapeutic evaluation of the orthodontic treatment among adult orthodontic patients with gender, age, chief complaint, treatment plan, appliance and treatment time.Patients with different complaints and the use of implant anchorage showed significant differences in the aesthetics oftheOrthodontic TreatmentTherapeutic Evaluation questionnaire(p<0.05),and patients with different treatment time showed significant differences in the comfort level of the orthodontic therapeutic evaluation(p<0.05).There were significant differences in individual items of the Orthodontic TreatmentTherapeutic Evaluation questionnaire among adult patients with different gender, chief complaint, tooth extraction, use of implant anchorage and treatment time(p<0.05).Conclusions:1.There was a correlation between personality characteristics and orthodontic efficacy evaluation in adult patients, among which patients with higher neuroticism scores had a lower evaluation on function, comfort, social influence and overall therapeutic effect.2.Adults with a neurotic,high-scoring personality have the following characteristics: they feel "miserable" for no reason, think they are nervous and constantly plagued by guilt.3.Adult patients with higher neuroticism scores have a lower evaluationon of social impact after orthodontic treatment.4.The chief complaint influences the evaluation of the aesthetic and social impact after orthodontic treatment in adult patients.Theimplant anchorage influences the evaluation of the aesthetic evaluation after orthodontic treatment in adult patients. The treatment time influences the evaluation of the comfort level after orthodontic treatment in adult patients. It is helpful that orthodontic doctorscommunication with the patients before orthodontic treatment, effectively distinguish the high score neuroticismpatients, fully understand the degree of their attention and expectations with treatment,in the process of treatmentof patients with psychological counseling, appropriate to reduce patients' expectations, improve patient satisfaction of treatment effect, efforts to achieve the orthodontic treatment in a harmonious atmosphere.
