Objective:To study the relationship between the C677 T polymorphism of MTHFR gene and severe oligospermia in Xinjiang.Methods:154 cases of moderate to severe oligospermia were selected from the reproductive assistant pregnancy center of our hospital and those from the urology andrology department. The control group included 294 Han males who had been treated in our hospital at the same time. The distribution and frequency of MTHFR C677 T gene polymorphism were compared between the two groups(P<0.05 as the standard). Results:the distribution and frequency of the TT genotype and allele in case group were different from those in control group(P<0.05).The frequency of the TT genotype in the case group was significantly higher than that in the control group(42.3 % >20.8 %).The results showed that the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05;OR=2.926;95 % CI=1.721-4.975).In genotype CT,there was no significant difference between case group and control group(P=0.415>0.05).The alleles T of the two groups were compared, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05;OR=1.847,95%CI=1.396-2.443).Conclusion:the TT gene and the T allele of MTHFR gene may be a risk factor for severe oligozoospermia.
