Attitudes Of Children And Parents About Basic Eye Care

Objective: According to grounded theory for understanding the children and parents’ attitudes about basic eye care and the major reason why they didn’t accept local eye care.Methods: Yuci District of Jinzhong City in Shanxi Province,Gaoping City of Jincheng City,Linchuan county of Jincheng City were chosen using random stratified sampling method from 2016-7 to 2016-9.35 families 70 people(35 children aged6 to 14 years old and their guardians)were chosen from the three areas.The 35 children were diagnosed refractive error(Vision≤0.5)and their parents were notified to take their children to local hospital for eye care service in orbis Seeing and Believing the fifth phase-shanxi project.But all of the children didn’t accept the eye care of local hospital finally.The 35 families were accepted interviews.The study use semi-structured interview,We interviewed in children and parents’ vision.we transcribed interview recording into texts.2 researchers respectively conducted open coding,axial coding and selective coding,Finally,2 researchers acquire outcomes.Results: We worked out 35 first--grade categories in open coding and 18 second--grade categories in axial categories in axil coding.selective coding formed 8 core categories.Parents and Children realized children’s eye problem,but parents and children thought it was’ t severe.And they think the benefits of wearing glasses is a little.These ideas led to parents and children indifference about School vision screening results,Some parents take children to optical shop to buy glasses,some parents worked in other places,It’s difficult for them to take children to local hospital,Some children had wore glasses before they were told to go to local hospital.The children didn’t go to local hospital to recieve eye care sevice because of all of these reasons.Using glasses don’t associate with children’s age,parents educational background and family income.Conclusion:Children and parents lack of recognition about basic eye care.The formation mechanism of the children and parents who don’t accept local eye health care have many factors.Measures should be taken to popularize for parents and children the importance of correct refractive error in time,to inform parents should go to standard eye care service organization,to let parents know the optometry correction of children’s eyesight is particularly important.Using glasses don’t associate with children’s age,parents educational background and family income.
