Objective: To investigate the relationship between the changes of thoracolumbar curvature and lower lumbar disc degeneration in patients with traumatic thoracolumbar fracture. Methods: T11-L2 and L2-S1 angles were measured on 127 cases of traumatic thoracolumbar compression fractures in Lumbar lateral X ray.The degree of degeneration of L3-4,L4-5,L5-S1 intervertebral discs was evaluated on MRI slices. Then analyze the correlation between them. Results: The T11-L2 angles were 1.3 °-27.5 °(n = 127),the angles of L2-S1 were-44.1 °-66.5 °(n = 127),there was a significant negative correlation between T11-L2 and L2-S1.There is a significant positive correlation between the degree of degeneration of L4-5 and L5-S1 disc in 40-49 age group,50-59 age group and T11-L2 angle. The same to L3-4,L4-5 and L5-S1 disc degeneration in 60-69 age group. Conclusion: The thoracolumbar curvature and lower lumbar curvature in patients with traumatic thoracolumbar fracture are closely related.Thoracolumbar kyphosis deformity can lead to lower lumbar compensatory hyperproliferation, and thoracolumbar kyphosis may accelerate the process of lower lumbar disc degeneration.
