| Objectives The aims of the study are(1)to investigate the sexual behaviour characteristics before diagnosis of the newly reported HIV/AIDS cases through heterosexual transmission in Guangdong Province,(2)to verify the routes of transmission of such cases,(3)to analyse the influence factors of misinformation on transmission channel and,(4)to provide reference for intervention measures for HIV/AIDS through sexual transmission.Method This retrospective and cross-sectional study undertakes a questionnaire survey on the newly reported HIV/AIDS positives through heterosexual transmission in Shunde,Jieyang and Yunfu from 2015 to 2017,collecting both demographic data and sufferers’ sexual history as well as sexual behaviour characteristics. The chi-square test is used for single factor analysis, while multivariate analysis is carried out by non-conditional logistic regression analysis. Results 1.Route of transmission: Among the 574 reported HIV/AIDS cases via heterosexual transmission,495(86.2%)are certified to be transmitted through heterosexual intercourse.75 cases(13.1%)turn out to be transmitted through MSM sex,and 4(0.7%)through reused needles.2.Heterosexual transmission characteristics: Up to 244(42.5%)injections are given with commercial sex work,149(26.0%)non-marital and non-commercial sexual transmission, and 102(17.8%)martial spouse.Male accounts for 99.6% among HIV/AIDS cases through commercial sex work, while female takes up 91.2% of sufferers from martial spouse.Cases through the three heterosexual transmission routes have statistically significant differences in sex, age, marital status and educational level.3.52.9% sufferers from commercial sexual transmission never used a condom in their intercourse.Statistically significant differences are identified among different age groups in their approaches to commercial sex partners(P<0.001).43.75% of those above 70 find their sex partners via street walking(14/32),while those below 20 have commercial sexual activities via internet/social network more than any other age groups.HIV/AIDS cases through commercial sexual transmission mainly take place in massage parlours/hair salons/foot massage parlours, hotels and rental rooms, accounting for 32.9%(80/243),30.0%(73/243)and 27.6%(67/243)respectively among all HIV/AIDS cases through commercial sexual transmission.Differences in commercial sexual activity places are statistically significant(P<0.001)among three areas.4.54.1%~82.8% of HIV/AIDS cases through non-marital and non-commercial sexual transmission never used a condom with all kinds of non-marital and non-commercial sex partners in their intercourse.Statistically significant differences are identified in different age groups among non-marital and non-commercial HIV/AIDS cases(P<0.001).5.Jieyang(OR=4.68)and STD clinic(OR=3.17)have a relatively higher rate of misinformation on the transmission route of heterosexual transmission cases, according to logistic regression model. Conclusions 1.Commercial sexual transmission is the main transmission route in heterosexual transmission.Heterosexual transmission routes vary among areas.2.HIV/AIDS sufferers through heterosexual transmission are less likely to use a condom. The sexual behaviour characteristics of different transmission routes differ.3.Misinformation is identified on the routes of transmission in the so-called “heterosexual transmission” cases in AIDS Network Direct Reporting System, with major influence factors lying in case location and HIV testing organizations. |
