Objective:This study aimed to obtain perception value and tolerance value for lip line canting and compare the differences of perceptions of lip line canting in different populations. The purpose was to provide valuable reference for orthodontic clinic. Methods:An adult female with roughly facial symmetry was chosen as research object, frontal photograph was taken in natural head position.Photoshop software was chosen to make photograph a complete symmetry of the right and left side and clockwise rotate lip line with a gradient of 1 °,then 8 different pictures were achieved.1.By Websurvey in the private practice setting,60 orthodontists, dentists, orthodontic patients and non-oral related practitioners were randomly selected to observe and evaluate these pictures that were sorted by the degree of lip line canting from low to high without reminding the contents of the study,so as to explore the sensitivity of different groups of people to lip line canting.2.After the study contents was informed, all of the above observed and evaluated these pictures again which were numbered by random number formula and selected pictures with lip line canting and pictures that are necessary to treatment,to explore the sensitivity and tolerance of lip line canting, and compare the sensitivity and tolerance of different groups to lip line canting.Result:1.As a whole, the average of lip line canting that can be perceived is 2.65°,and the average of lip line canting that needs to be treatment is 4.1°.2.When the contents of the research were not reminded, there were 2 people who could perceive 1 degree lip line canting, which was 0.83% of the experimenter. After being told,it could be 28,which was 11.7% of the experimenter. Before and after the study contents was informed, there was statistical difference in the number of people who could perceive 1 degree lip line canting(P<0.05).3.There was no statistical difference between different sex and age in sensitivity and tolerance to lip line canting(P>0.05).4.The sensitive value of orthodontists to lip line canting was less than that of dentists and non-oral related practitioners. The perception value of orthodontic patients was less than that of non-oral related practitioners(P<0.05).5.The tolerance value of orthodontic patients was minimum that were statistical difference from other roles(P<0.05).Conclusion:1.At present, the attention to lip line canting is not particularly high.It can be perceivd that the degree of lip line canting is 2.65°,and be treated that is 4.1°.2.After the study contents was informed, people's attention to the lip line canting is obviously improved.3.Orthodontists were more sensitive to the lip line canting than dentists and non-oral related practitioners, and orthodontic patients are more sensitive than non-oral related practitioners.4.Among all the roles, orthodontic patients have the highest requirement for lip line canting. These findings might help therapist to consider the patient's expectations when planning treatment.5.Age and gender did not affect the degree of attention to lip line canting.
