Objective: To understand the epidemiological characteristics of drinking behavior among 18 to 34 years old emerging adults in Wuhan,to research their relationship with demographic characteristics,drinking motivation,drinking cognition,adulthood propensity,to provide evidence and reference for emerging adults to develop healthy drinking behavior.Methods: This study is one of the four important parts of the international cooperative project named “Cross-cultural Urban Young People Drinking Behavior Survey Study”.A multi-stage random sampling of 13 administrative regions in Wuhan was conducted.Face-to-face interviews were used to conduct questionnaire surveys.The research subjects were 18 to 34 years old young people who lived in Wuhan for more than 6 months,and the research lasted 186 days.1637 valid questionnaires were included in the final analysis.The univariate analysis of drinking was performed based on demographic characteristics,drinking cognition,drinking motivation and adulthood propensity etc.On this basis,the multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the related factors of alcohol consumption.Results:(1)Among the subjects,the proportion of people who with a history of drinking was 53.76%;In the current drinking situation,the proportion of non-drinking,light drinking,moderate drinking and heavy drinking is 53.65%,42.98%,2.02% and 1.35% respectively.(2)According to the univariate analysis,student identity,marital status,drinking cognition,and adulthood propensity have impact on the current drinking situation.The drinking rate among students or people with a positive drinking cognition,like thinking that drinking is fun,is higher(P<0.05).The alcohol consumption rate of the married people or people with higher adulthood propensity is lower(P<0.05).(3)According to the multi-factor analysis,age,marital status,and drinking cognition have an impact on the current drinking situation.people aged 30-34 are more likely to drink than those aged 18-24(OR=1.946,95% CI: 1.316 ~2.879).the risk of drinking of married people is lower than that of people in other marital status(OR=0.540,95%CI: 0.363~0.803).Those who agree that drinking is fun are more likely to drink(OR=1.504,95% CI: 1.103~2.049),those who agree that drinking alcohol is a way to express friendship is more likely to drink(OR=4.854,95%CI:3.244~7.264),and people who agree that drinking is no good have lower risk of drinking(OR=0.354,95% CI: 0.260~0.482).(4)The main motivation for drinking is social contact;The most popular wine is beer;People who drink alcohol in different situations have different levels of alcohol consumption,People who were not drink at home or alone were less likely to drink(P<0.05).(5)there was no difference in the age of first drinking and first drunk age between different gender(both P>0.05),and the first drinking or first drunk occurred before the age of 15 have higher levels of alcohol consumption(P<0.05).Conclusions: The emerging adults aged 18-34 in Wuhan shows different drinking behavior characteristics,gender differences in drinking behavior is not obvious,but older people,or people with "positive drinking cognition",such as thinking that drinking is fun,are more likely to drink;Students are more likely to drink alcohol;People who were married,who believed that alcohol was not beneficial,were less likely to drink.The main motivation of drinking is social contact,and the most popular wine type is beer.People who were not drink at home or alone were less likely to drink.People who drink alcohol for the first time are older than 15 is more likely to drink.Therefore,it is very important to carry out targeted education according to the characteristics of the drinking behavior of emerging adults and promote the formation of a good life behavior for this special group of people.
