Objective: To compare the coronal sealing ability of four temporary restorative materials and to provide experimental evidences for clinicians to select suitable temporary restorative material.Method: 80 non-carious and intact premolars were collected. The crowns were cut but the remaining depth was 4mm.Class I cavities were prepared(buccolingual direction for 6mm,mesiodistal direction for 4mm),then cavity preparation were accessed to obtain a straight line pathway;then the samples were randomly divided into 4 groups, and the cavities were respectively filled by Cavition, glass ionomer cement,HY-BOND temporary cement and Clip-F.All of them were placed in a constant temperature water bath box at 37°C for 24 hours.10 samples of each group were randomly selected and soaked in 2% methylene blue for 7 days in a constant temperature water bath box at 37°C;the remaining 10 samples of each group were soaked for 14 days. Then samples were cut mesiodistally into two pieces by carborundum disc. Finally the degree of dye-penetration was observed and recorded under the stereomicroscope. Results:When samples are dyed for 7th day,the difference among four groups is statistically significant,(P<0.05);the comparison between any two groups shows that the difference of the glass ionomer cement group and Cavition group is not statistically significant,P>0.05,the other,s is statistically significant,(P<0.038),also as the 14 th day. When the same materials are dyed for 7 days or 14 days, the difference of Clip-F group, glass ionomer cement group and Cavition group is not statistically significant,P > 0.05.The difference of the HY-BOND temporary cement group is statistically significant,P<0.05,the degree of the 7th day is lighter than the 14 th day. Conclusion: This in vitro experiment finds that comparing with the other three groups, the Clip-F group has a better coronal sealing ability at 7 and 14 days;and HY-BOND is not suitable for long-time temporary sealing.
