Individual development contains newborns, children, adults, aging and death, which is ubiquitous in nature.Aging can increase the possibility of death and illness. So anti-aging is always the challenge for researchers for years.C.elegans N2 is mainly fed on E.coli OP50 andthe average lifespan is three weeks at 20 ?.C.elegans N2 is often used as animal model to research on the unknown field for a highly conserved gene sequences with human.Antibiotics are secondary metabolites of microorganisms and they can selectively inhibit or kill a variety of pathogenic microorganisms at a low concentration. Moreover, antibiotics have the effects on anti-tumor,immune suppression and stimulation plant growth. In this study,C.elegans N2 was used as animal model to research the effect of antibiotics on aging and development. We treated the NGM plate and E.coli OP50 with the same concentration of antibiotics.Firstly,N2 were synchronized and grew on NGM plate containing Amp.Results suggested that high concentration of Amp(500?g/ml)hindered the development of N2,while the moderate and low concentration of Amp had no obvious effect on the development of N2.Secondly,we combined Amp and Kan or Amp and SM,respectively. Results showed that the development of N2 were greatly delayed when N2 were fed on E.coli OP50 with the concentration of Amp(100 ?g/ml)Kan(50 ?g/ml)or Amp(100 ?g/ml)SM(50 ?g/ml).Interesting,they kept in the larval stage for the observation period andtheir lifespan were similarity with the wild type N2 at 20 ?.Importantly, the delay of development was reversible. In addition,N2 was synchronized and incubated to L4 on the normal NGM plate and then transferred them to NGM plate containing the combined antibiotics, results showed that the L4 larvae could grow to adults after three days, which confirmed that the combined antibiotics maybe have much more impact on development of L1-L4.Finally,we demonstrated it was the antibiotics not E.coli OP50 that affected the development of N2.Besides,the delay directlyled to the reduction in fecundityand delayed the development of N2 gonads. In this paper,we study the effects of antibiotics on the development of C.elegans N2,which provides a new idea for anti-aging.
