Objective: To study the changes on density of hydrogen sulfide synthase in hypoglossal motor nucleus of rats under chronic intermittent hypoxia(CIH)circumstance. Methods: Adult male Sprague-Dawley(SD)rats(n=12)were randomly and meanly divided into two groups(the CIH group and the control group). The CIH group was fed in low oxygen cabins(60s/N2,the fraction of oxygen volume reduced to 5% under hypoxia;and alternately 60s/air,the fraction of oxygen volume increased to 21%;between 8:30~16:30 each day)for 35 days. The control group was fed in common atmospheric environment cabins. We study the expression of 3 kinds of synthases by Western blot and RT-PCR.Results: The expression of CBS and 3MST in the CIH group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05)by Western blot analysis. And in RT-PCR study, the m RNA expression of CBS and 3MST in the CIH group were also less than in the controls obviously(P<0.05).There was no difference in the expression of CSEm RNA between the two groups. Conclusion: CIH resulted in an injure of hypoglossal nucleus, which might be related to the decreased expression of hydrogen sulfide synthases.CBS and3MST-H2 S pathway might play an important role in the pathogenesis of OSA.
