Objective:To compare the impacts of anastomotic complications after esophagectomy for esophageal carcinoma between cervical side-to-side anastomosis and end-to-end anastomosis. Methods:Between November 2015 to August 2017,86 cases of esophageal cancer patients underwent the video-assisted mediastinoscopy for the treatment of esophageal cancer with neck anastomosis. They include 49 cases of cervical side-to-side anastomosis and 37 cases of end-to-end anastomosis.Intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, postoperative pulmonary and cardiovascdar complications, anastomotic leakage, stricture and reflux esophagitis were compared. Results: There were no statistically significant differences with intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, postoperative pulmonary and cardiovascdar complications, anastomotic leakage between two groups of side-to-side anastomosis and end-to-end anastomosis(P>0.05).However,side-to-side anastomosis could significantly reduce the incidence of anastomotic stricture and reflux esophagitis compared to end-to-end anastomosis. There were statistically significant differences with them(P<0.05).Conclusion:The cervical side-to-side anastomosis can reduce the incidence of anastomotic stricture and reflux esophagitis compared to end-to-end anastomosis, but it is no significant in reducing the anastomotic leakage.
