Objective:Empathy, the ability to share another person's inner life,is fundamental for the success of human relationships and societies.Impairments of social cognition and empathic attunement to the social world belong to the core features of schizophrenia. This study aims to develop the testing of multifaceted empathy test and test its reliability and validity. To provide useful measurement tools for the evaluation, intervention and rehabilitation training of people with related mental disorders.Further combining with The Chinese Interpersonal pointer scale(The Interpersonal Reactivity Index,IRI-C)analysis of patients with schizophrenia empathy ability, study the empathy characteristics of patients with schizophrenia, help to elucidate the neural mechanism of empathy ability to provide theoretical and practical support. Methods: Study1 :According to the theory of empathy, the current situation of national study and the previous literature, the initial version of MET was based on the expert group discussion. The sample comprised 601 students from a university in Anhui province,The IRI-C was used as its criterion of validity, then 84 students participated in the retest 4 weeks later.Statistical analyses were analyzed by SPSS 22.0 software.Study 2: This is the first study using the MET in a sample of patients with schizophrenia explored cognitive and affective dimensions of empathy in individuals with healthy controls.48 schizophreniapatients and 49 healthy controls were recruited;Chinese version of interpersonal reactivity index(IRI-C)was used to measure empathy trait.,the correlation between behavioral variables using Pearson correlation analysis. Results Study1 :The testing consisted of 40 photographs, including 20 of positive emotional valence(10 of males,10 of females)and 20 of negative emotional valence(10 of males,10 of females). All photographs depicted people in emotionally charged situations. Each item was significantly correlated with the while scales(r= 0.189~0.735,P<0.01),high and low groups were significantly different in all the 40 items, indicating that the MET had good differentiation degree(P<0.001).The Cronbach's ? of the cognitive empathy and emotional empathy of MET were 0.714 and 0.953,and the test-retest reliability coefficient were 0.846 and 0.802 respectively,Split-half reliability was between 0.630~0.926.The MET's cognitive scale was positively correlated with the cognitive scale of the IRI-C(r=0.140,P<0.01).In addition, the MET's emotional scale was positively correlated with the emotional scale of the IRI-C(r=0.157,P<0.01),which would provide support for the validity of the MET.Study2:(1)In IRI-C,Schizophrenia patient group IRI-C total score, perspective taking, fantasy, empathy concerne score was significantly lower than the control group(p<0.05).(2)In MET,The cognitive empathy dimension in schizophrenia patient group showed significantly lower than the control group, and emotional empathy dimension score was lower than that of the control group.(3)Correlation analysis between MET and course of disease, the cognitive empathy accuracy of MET was significantly negatively correlated with the course of disease(r=-0.340,p<0.05),and the other dimensions were not related to the course of disease. Conclusion Study1:MET is featured with satisfied reliability and validity and could easily differentiate between cognitive empathy and emotional empathy, which is a suitable tool for Chinese.Study2 :People with schizophrenia have a wide range of disorders, namely cognitive empathy and emotional empathy. The length of the duration of the disease affects the ability of other people's emotion recognition.
