Objective: In this study,a new compound ornidazole and rhubarb oral sustained-release membrane used in the treatment of chronic periodontitis was applied to the treatment course of peri-implantitis.By comparing the therapeutic effect of compound medicine ornidazole and Chinese medicine rhubarb with commonly used minocycline hydrochloride ointment,we were able to establish the differences between two antiseptic agents. Methods: The study includes patients diagnosed with peri-implantitis.Patients are generally healthy with no local and systemic disease associated with peri-implantitis and no known anaphylactic reaction to tetracycline antibiotics and nitroimidazoles. The Peri-impant probing depth(PPD)and bleeding on probing(BoP)parameters of implants were measured before the treatment process.Selected cases were randomly divided into A,B,C three groups.Group A,B and C were treated with iodine glycerin, minocycline hydrochloride ointment and ornidazole and rhubarb oral sustained-release membrane respectively. The follow up values of PPD and Bo P parameter were examined 3 weeks,6 weeks,12 weeks and 24 weeks after the anti-bacterial treatment.Statistical analysis of the results will be tested by two-way ANOVA and scheffe analysis using SPSS Statistics 24 software. Results: A total of 43 patients with peri-implantitis participated in the study. There were 22 males and 21 females, age between 27 to 61 years old.A total of 62 dental implants were randomly divided into A(20),B(21),C(21)three groups.During the experiment, both PPD and Bo P index showed an upward tendency in all three groups from 3 weeks to 24 weeks after the treatment.According to the results, group A showed the lowest anti-bacterial efficacy among 3 groups throughout the trial, while group C maintained a higher efficacy than group B 12 weeks after the treatment. The statistical analysis of the three groups showed that there were significant differences between A,B groups and A,C groups, but no significant difference between B,C groups. Conclusion: The study was able to observe varying degrees of PPD and Bo P score of all 62 implants between these 3 groups.Within 24 weeks of the trial, overall results have implied that compound ornidazole and rhubarb oral sustained-release membrane may have equal, even better antiseptic effect than minocycline hydrochloride ointment when used in peri-implantitis treatment.
