Objective:The aim of the present study is to investigate the association between Lp(a)serum level and existence as well as the degree of coronary atherosclerosis and evaluate the predictive value of Lp(a)for coronary artery lesion. Methods:The study was conducted on 469 chest pain patients or suspected coronary artery disease(CAD)who underwent angiography through measuring serums lipids,Lp(a)and evaluation of coronary stenosis by Gensini score. The patients were subdivided by the level of Lp(a)and the number of coronary artery lesion.Multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the relationship between plasma Lp(a)level and coronary Gensini score, and the relationship between plasma Lp(a)levels and the number of lesions was analyzed by ordinal Logistic regression. Results:The 469 patients were subdivided into four subgroups according to the level of fasting Lp(a):Lp(a)< 8.7mg/dl(n =116),8.7mg/dl? Lp(a)< 15.8mg/dl(n=117),15.8mg/dl?Lp(a)<30.95mg/dl(n=119),Lp(a)?30.95mg/dl(n=117).Moreover,the patients were divided into coronary artery disease group(n =279),0% <degree of coronary artery stenosis<50% group(n =45),nomal control group(n =145),then the stenosis group was futher divided into single vessel coronary disease group(n=140),double-vessel coronary disease group(n=89),and multi-vessel coronary disease group(n=50).Multiple linear regression analysis shows that Gensini grades is associated with gender(b=-0.16 P<0.01),age(b=0.15 P<0.01),Hypertension(b=0.78 P=0.04),diabetes mellitus(b=0.13 P<0.01),Lp(a)level(b=0.15 P<0.01).The increasing level of Lp(a)plasma concentration is significantly correlated with Gensini grades(P=0.00),while no correlated with the number of coronary artery lesion(P=0.89).Furthermore,the Lp(a)level of coronary artery disease group is obviously higher than that of the 0%<degree of coronary artery stenosis<50% group and nomal control group, and Lp(a)level shows an upward trend among the three groups(P<0.01).Conclusion:In this study, the data demonstrates that Lp(a)serum level is directly related with coronary artery disease and positively correlated with the coronary atherosclerosis severity.Plasma Lp(a)concentration may be reliable predictor of CAD severity.
