Objective:The purpose of this study was to observe the consistency of blood potassium ion detected by blood gas analyzer and biochemical analyzer, and to explore the accuracy and reliability of using blood gas analyzer to determine blood potassium in clinic. Methods:This study was a prospective study of 73 patients hospitalized in the Department of Respiratory and critical Care Medicine of Shanxi Medical University from March 2017 to August 2017 and collected both arterial and venous blood at the same time, among whom 33 were critically ill patients,as the critical group of this study;40 ordinary patients as the general group of the study, and 30 healthy persons who underwent physical examination at the first Hospital of Shanxi Medical University as the normal control group during the period,At the same time, the arterial blood and venous blood were collected. The arterial blood samples were detected by the Danish Raydor ABL800 blood gas analyzer, and the venous blood samples were detected by Beckman AU5800 automatic biochemical analyzer. Then, the difference between the measured values of arterial blood potassium and the measured values of venous blood potassium were compared in each group. Results:For the all(n=103),The measured value of arterial potassium was 3.68 ±0.41 mmol /L,which was significantly lower than that of venous blood potassium(4.08 ±0.46 mmol /L,P < 0.001).The correlation coefficient of Pearson between the two groups was 0.801,which was very strong. For the critical group,The measured value of arterial potassium was 3.68 ±0.53 mmol / L,which was lower than that of venous blood potassium(4.02±0.50 mmol / L,P < 0.001).The correlation coefficient of Pearson between them was0.915,showing a very strong correlation. For the general group,The measured value of arterial potassium was 3.57 ±0.33 mmol / L,which was lower than that of venous blood potassium(3.94 ±0.37 mmol / L,P < 0.001).The correlation coefficient of Pearson between them was 0.782,which was strong. For the normal control group,The measured value of arterial potassium was 3.82 ±0.32 mmol / L,which was lower than that of venous blood potassium(4.31 ±0.46 mmol / L,P < 0.001).The correlation coefficient of Pearson between them was 0.591,showing a moderate correlation. Conclusion:The measured value of arterial blood potassium is lower than that of venous blood potassium.Compared with the measured value of venous blood potassium, the measured value of arterial blood potassium is more close to the true value of human body and the accuracy is higher. Therefore, the arterial blood potassium value measured by blood gas analyzer can be used to evaluate the condition of the disease for patients, especially for critically ill patients,it should be the first choice, because it is faster, more convenient and accurate.
